Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver's urban transit operator TransLink is the operating name of the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority; a group councillors of local municipalities in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia established to address the Vancouver regions' traffic and transit issues. The transit operation was formerly the brief of the provincial government operated BC Transit which is still responsible for the bus operations of Victoria BC.

The city of 1.5 million is served by Trolleybuses inside the City of Vancouver and Burnaby, diesel buses in all regions of Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Delta, White Rock, Port Coquitlam, Langley & North Vancouver. The independently operated West Vancouver Buses operate in association with TransLink. Surrey, Burnaby, Vancouver and New Westminster are also served by the Skytrain system, a driverless mass transit system which first opened in 1986. The current length of the system is about 60 kilometres, which includes the original Expo Line and the newer Millennium Loop Line. Work is underway on an extension to YVR International Airport and Richmond, to be called the 'Canada Line' in time for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. A second extension from Lougheed Town Centre Stn to Port Coquitlam is to commence shortly, and will be known as the 'Evergreen Line'. Also operated in this region is the West Coast Express commuter train, using similar passenger cars to GO Transit in Toronto, and operate a peak hour service inbound from Mission in the AM Peak, and outbound from the old Canadian Pacific Terminal in Vancouver on Cordova St in the PM peak. Since the takeover of the Greater Vancouver operations from BC Transit, Translink created a new livery and now most but not all vehicles have been repainted in the new 'Sweep' colour scheme.

A new fleet of Vossloh Kiepe Trolleybuses with bodywork by New Flyer industries is expected to be delivered within the next 18 months. The prototype vehicle, 2101, can be seen most days in service for training and crew familiarisation. These will replace the fleet of E901A/E902's that have been in service since 1982/83.
